We’re very proud of our Vintage Leather Jackets range, which includes reproduction Coats in German, British and American styles. Here we have picked 5 of our favourites, with a little bit more information and history about each one.
American B3 Bomber Jacket
The first on our shortlist of favourite Vintage Leather Jackets is our American B3 Bomber Jacket. They are based on the WW2 design worn by USAAF Bomber Pilots. They were originally manufactured to combat the tough conditions faced by pilots, as they were often flying at altitudes of over 30,000 feet in an unpressurised cockpit.
Our replicas are made from a thick dark brown sheepskin leather with white sheep skin fleece wool inside. They feature a quality strong front zipper, two straps with buckles for closing neck, side adjusting straps with buckles and two front thrust pockets. They’re perhaps the first thing you think of when someone talks about a Bomber Jacket, with their classic style as popular today as ever.
British Fighter Pilot Jacket
The next in our line of Vintage Leather Jackets is the British Fighter Pilot Jacket. The roots of this Jacket come from an American; Leslie Irvin. He set up production facilities in Letchworth in 1926 as a result of the success of the Irvin Parachute, and began making Pilot Jackets here in the early 1930s.
Our repros are made from a thick brown sheepskin leather with honey coloured sheepskin fleece wool inside. They feature a good quality strong front zipper, sleeve zips, two bolt buckle on the neck, half waist belt with buckle and two front pockets.
Leather Panzer Wraps
Next up is the WW2 German Leather Panzer Wrap, as largely used by U-Boats personnel. They have a stylish, close fit, and are made from a quality black leather with an elegant red lining throughout. Each has one inside zip closing pocket and there are spare buttons provided with each jacket. These have the loops and buttons for shoulder boards and can be worn with or without.
We’ve also supplied some of these jackets for the film Dead Snow 2 – have a look at some Zombified wraps above! We loved seeing them in action in the film, and if you haven’t seen it yet we very much recommend checking it out (as well as the first one!).
American A2 Jacket
Another iconic WW2 Jacket is the American Airforce’s A2 Leather Jacket. These truly are great flying jackets made from a very soft, supple, deep brown or black leather for a very luxurious feel. Each jacket has 2 button down front pockets at the side of which are two additional hand warmer pockets – not strictly part of the original design but a most welcome modern addition especially in chillier weather.
These jackets also feature the correct knitted cuffs and waist bands, shoulder straps and button down shirt style collar, as well as the appropriate storm flap over the zipper. The lining is made from cotton and is a russet brown colour, internally there are also two pockets as well as a dual leather pen holders/pockets to the inside left.
U-Boat Leather Jacket
The last of the Vintage Leather Jackets in this Blog is the U-Boat Jacket, which is made from a quality leather. They were worn by U-Boat deck crews during WW2, who were collectively known as the ‘Grey Wolves’.
They feature two waist flap pockets and two chest slash pockets as well as an inside pocket. They also have a full wool lining and elasticated inner cuffs for extra snugness. They are fastened with a set of matching grey Kriegsmarine buttons, featuring the anchor and rope emblem of the WW2 German Naval Forces.
